Green Hair Dye

Changing your natural hair color can be a bold way to express yourself. If you want to experiment with green hair dye, find answers to all your questions about updating your mane in a bold, vibrant shade of mint, lime, grass or forest green.

How To Maintain Green Hair

It can take some maintenance to keep your green hair looking as bold and bright as you desire. However, when it comes to washing your hair, stick to a once-a-week schedule, so your color looks fresh for a longer time. In between shampoo sessions, make friends with dry shampoo, so your style never suffers. Moisture masks and deep conditioners can also shield your shade. Heat styling causes damage that can dim the brightness of your hair, so either skip it completely or use heat protectant spray if you need to break out the curling iron.

Does Green Hair Dye Fade Fast?

Bold colors tend to fade within a few weeks, and green is no exception. Depending on the green hair dye brand you select, expect to get a month or two out of your new color.

You can stretch out the time before you need a refresh by selecting dark green hair dye in an emerald or hunter hue since neon and pastel shades tend to fade faster than deep hues. Deep conditioning your hair about a week before you dye can also help the color last. You can also wash your hair with a color-depositing shampoo formulated to refresh and brighten until you dye your hair again.

What Color Does My Hair Have to Be To Dye It Green?

Even if you choose the best green hair dye available, it won't show up well on dark hair. Permanent and semipermanent formulas work best on blonde hair, though you'll also notice a subtle change in shade if you have light brown hair. If your tresses are dark brown or black and you want a bright green transformation, you'll need to lighten your hair as much as possible before you apply the colorful dye.

If you don't want to use bleach on your hair, try temporary hair makeup. These products come in sprays or sticks and give you a quick hint of color on any natural shade without the need to lighten your hair beforehand.
