Prilosec

Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor that is designed to help relieve and block frequent heartburn. Prilosec contains the active ingredient omeprazole and was the first drug from this type of medication to be released. Prilosec OTC is often referred to by users simply as Prilosec. In some cases, it may take 1 – 4 days of treatment for Prilosec to take full effect.

Prilosec OTC should be taken once a day. Ideally, you should take your daily dose with a glass of water before your first meal of the day.

You should not take more than 3 courses of Prilosec OTC within a year without checking in with your doctor to ensure that your heartburn is not caused by a more serious underlying condition.

Prilosec side effects are typically minimal. If adverse effects do occur, the most likely side effects of Prilosec are headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and gas. If you experience bothersome side effects while taking Prilosec OTC, you should contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
