We purchased two packs of the CVS Cold& Hot patches. The first patch we tried to use wouldn't stick to my shoulder at all, I could also barely feel any ointment on it, no cold sensation and I could barely feel it at all. We opened the other pack purchased at the same time (and had a later expiration date) and tried another patch, but it was the same. We bought the name brand later and there was a major difference. excellent pain reliever.
