The coarse version of unflavored Metamucil mixes better with water or juices than the smooth version, which tends to clump. Avoiding added artificial flavor and color in something that should be healthy and taken lifetime makes sense. After all, if you want flavoring, mix it in OJ or the juice of your choice. Any fiber supplement takes some getting used to. Use lots of water or juice (I use about 2 heaping teaspoons every morning before breakfast and mix it in about 24 ounces of water). As important as fiber and fiber supplements is to your digestive health, fiber also lowers blood cholesterol levels and helps regulate blood sugar. I've been using this product for over 20 years. The packaging is terrible and cheap (all the versions: smooth, coarse, orange flavored, etc. look the same). It used to be much better. But, the product is as good as it gets for true fiber supplements. Note, you may find other fiber supplements that mix real well with fluids. They are not true fiber products but rather synthetic fiber. They may help regulate your digestion but they do not serve any other beneficial value to your health. To get that value, you need either a water soluble or insoluble true fiber supplement. That's where a product like Metamucil is nice. Can't find it anymore in retail stores
We've used Metamucil (or the CVS brand of the same thing) for many years. But lately, retail stores have more and more Orange and Berry flavors until the Unflavored Metamucil (and the CVS brand) disappeared from the shelves. And all kinds of "soft textures" and other textures came in (all very Flavored). Now the only place we can find the original texture and unflavored is CVS on line. this product has more uses than just orange juice

Much better than CVS "house" brand.
I find it irritating that my local CVS stores do not stock the "real" Metamucil brand in stores. Obviously CVS pushes the "house" brand. The "house" brand is VERY inferior to the name brand. The CVS brand does not mix well with liquid and leaves clumps compared to Metamucil. For some reason, the original coarse unflavored Metamucil has disappeared from shelves everywhere. The company says that they are having a hard time sourcing raw materials, but they seem to have plenty to make their Orange (ugh!!!) flavored product.
