I got type 4a hair and let me tell y’all some…IM IN LOVE WITH THIS PRODUCT 😍 I’ve always been using the ecostyler gel for my wash & go’s. But I noticed that it caused alot of dryness and flakes on my hair which I obviously didn’t like so I wanted to start using botanical gels so I switched to the Mielle curling custard. This custard has a great hold (which I didn’t expect), great fruity smell and my hair still feels soft. LOVE!
I absolutely LOVE this custard. I have 3c/4a hair that is low porosity, fine, and low density. I was nervous about trying this because I live in South Florida and was thinking the high humectant properties would produce poodle hair. Not at all! I am SO impressed. This gives me the perfect balance of definition, hold, and lightweight feel. It is a bit goopy-feeling/kind of sticky, so I wish it came in a wide nozzle pump for ease, but I absolutely adore this, especially when paired with the Honey & Pomegranate leave-in (which I also love!). I am able to get 3-day hair with this product, which may not be enough for some people, but the hold is definitely not enough for more than that. Since I cows after 3 days anyway, it really doesn't matter to me. You don't have to apply more if you get some frizz - you can just wet your hands and run it over the frizzy bits. If you do need to apply more, you only need a dab and there is absolutely no buildup or flaking. Another huge bonus is that I don't have to use a whole lot to get the benefit, so my hair dries in about 5 hours, which is a BFD for my low porosity hair. Curls popping!!
After taking out starter locs, I found my hair changed. I had given up on achieving a great wash and go like I had before starting the locs. I used the pomegranate and honey curling custard recently and my curls responded beautifully! They were defined, shiny, and moisturized (plus my hair smelled amazing!). I first purchased this product along with the Pom & Honey leave-in conditioner and smoothie and used all three for a wash & go (hair type 3c/4a, low porosity, fine-med strand thickness, med-high density). My curls came out soooooo gorgeous and it gave my curls so much movement, more than I've ever experienced with any other product! But, there was 1 major downfall: flakes :( I thought that maybe it flaked because of the smoothie's lotiony consistency but I've tried this custard multiple times (even by itself!) and it still flaked! I really wanted this to work because my curls were gorgeous and moved like they never have before and the custard is also moisturizing just by itself! Loyal Customer Disappointed!!!
I have been using the line of products for a while, and was excited to finally see a product specifically for my hair type. However, every time I use the product and I only use the Mielle line, I get flakes.I've tried using very little, I tried using the White Peony Leave-In since it's lighter as a part of my styling,I've only used leave in and the curling custard. Every single time, I get the same results. it's highly embarrassing to work in a professional setting looking as if your hair is dirty when you washed it the previous night. No flakes!
This is the first styling gel I've ever tried on my natural hair that didn't flake. My hair absorbed the Honey & Pomegranate leave-in and moisturizer, thus when completed styling with the Curling Custard, I didn't have a coating of product that would ultimately turn into flakes. This is the only gel that doesn't leave flakes in my hair, thank you. I was shocked by how moisturizing this is, and everything else in this collection is just too good.
